"If I could, then I would, I'd go wherever you will go, Way up high, Or down low, I'll go wherever you will go."
"Wherever you will go" by The Calling
An entry for 's contest. These are her characters Jono and Freya, who date on and off. Here, Freya is departing on a train and Jono races alongside as it leaves the station, begging to follow her "wherever you will go."
I love that song so much! I don't know if The Calling did anything else worth listening to, but I did go through a period of being utterly obsessed with Wherever You Will Go - in fact, on seeing this entry, I just had to find it in my music collection and shove it on repeat. It's a mega sweet song, I think. And this is a mega sweet entry! How did you do the rain? I always think rain is so romantic and evocative and it looks great here. My favourite part of the picture is Jono (obviously^^). He looks so panicked - the facial expression is really great, as are the glasses literally flying off his face and all of the air from the running puffing up his shirt. It's totally the kind of thing he would do too, run after the train - he's a bit of a romantic like that. It's awesome also that you gave him his yellow outfit, including all the badges and the belt^^ Oh, yes, and the movement! That's something I'm always afraid of trying out, but I love the blur on his hair, really gives the impression he's running. I'm babbling now, so I'll stop, but squee! I love it. Thanks ever so for entering!
ohmygawd. this is really. really. good. love the expressions, the idea, the way his the colours jono's wearing shine out through all the grey, bleak athmosphere - and the raindrops!!!

Nice job!! Actually, i was searching the thing that wasn't participating to the whole subject's moving effect.. and i think i found. I think that the rain should be falling more diagonally.. It could give us a bigger impression of speed, in my point of view..
Ah yes, I see your point. Actually, I had thought of making the rain diagonal, seeing as our eyes would associate it with movement and dramatic emphesis. However, I wanted the rain to be heavy, and a simple downpour - which meant no wind to blow the rain. I suppose it would have added to the effect if I changed the rain so it was diagonal, but I wanted to leave it as is. ^_^
I only know "Wherever you will go". I haven't heard any other of The Calling's work yet. Heehee, I'm flattered this drawing made you dig out the song! Ah yes, Jono's panicked expression… That was incredibly important to me! He has to watch Freya leave, but he won't give up right away. And for is outfit, it's one of my personal faves that you've given him.
The rain is just more photoshop Wacom tablet action. A whole bunch of individual "jots" I suppose the hand motion could be called. Takes a long time, but I loooooove doing it!
Sorry for my late response, by the way. Life is hectic during mid-terms. I can't wait to see more entries in your contest!

Jono is my favorite character, so I really wanted to show his emotions in this situation.
